Cotton candy

Lately, the rains have been causing havoc in the country in line with the weather man's prediction. One moment it's shinning and another things are being washed away.

Roads have been washed away and houses as well. And unfortunately caused fatalities in many parts of the country. Many problems have been caused by this weather. Like the other day we almost had to swim in our own compound back at home. It rained heavily for the better part of 20 mins and after that, looking at the rain water, I was sure that a dam near us had just burst it's banks even though no such dam exists.

However with all of the destruction that has come, good things will also follow. Like I know we stand a better chance in terms of food security.

Another good thing is the clouds which have been appearing are a photographer's dream. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, taste etc.... Ok maybe 'taste' was an exaggeration.lol.

Anyway for beginning photographers maybe you may have seen pictures where you wonder how the clouds were shot to achieve so much good detail.

These are shot using a small aperture (I'm assuming knowledge of aperture basics.) If you own a dslr or a camera where the aperture can be manipulated, you can experiment with different apertures. Starting from the largest to the smallest. You will notice that as aperture becomes smaller the details in the clouds increase.

So that's the beginners guide to dramatic clouds. Thank you.

Graffiti

I attended the launch of the photographers association of Kenya. Yes, there is such an association and yes, as I also discovered, photographers also have their own professional den where they meet. Got to meet great photographers and interact with them and share ideas.

The meeting had other 'creatives' as well e.g. film makers etc. And overall it was a good experience and I'm grateful that God allowed me the opportunity to know about the meeting. There are not many things better than meeting with great minds.

While I was there I noticed this graffiti on the wall of Mahatma Gandhi. I have mad respect for graffiti artists by the way. How someone takes a can of spray and does such can only be God given talent. Somethings there is no for faking (Kenyan English)... it's either you can do graffiti or you can't. So thank you as always for stopping by and now I leave you with individual pics that I took of the said portrait then the collage that I created.

As again as always let me know what you think.

Interesting quote by the way... First they ignore you then they ridicule you then they fight you then you win

This is the collage of the pieces

Escarpment

This shot I took earlier on in Jan this year. I had travelled to the western part of the country.

We have such a beautiful country. Why don't you do a random trip? Especially if you live in Nairobi which has a very central location. Lunch in Nakuru for example is just 2hours away and 500 bob one way via a very comfortable shuttle. Kericho, Eldoret etc promote local tourism :) and our national parks a well.

The tree

So this is the new era of mobile phone posts for my blog. :) As I was walking in the front yard at home today in the evening, I was able to capture these two shots which I'd like to share with you.

I think they work well coz of the monochrome. This tree had been sitting there all these years and I hadn't ever seen these shots. It goes in to prove that its possible to look without seeing.

What do you think of the shots?

Phone-posting test

The aim of this post it's to test the quality of pics that I share from my phone. If the quality of the post is satisfactory then I could possibly permanently switch to post via phone. The advantage that this offers is that I can do a post anywhere and at any time provided I have my phone and internet connection. I do not have to shoot wait to access a pc to share. In other words, do not take this post very seriously!!! :)

silhouette 2 - Nyeri-Karatina

Hey. Hope things have started off well for you so far this year. I'm alive and dreaming: dreaming of course of owning a DSLR this year among many other great dreams. Any-who.. I start off this year by taking you back to work I did some times last year. Yes, I'm dragging you back but just a bit and to a nice place as well. This particular collection came by pure chance.

My pals and I were coming from Nyeri when we got a tire bust just before Karatina town. No one got hurt and the driver and good pal Justin Karunguru (Justo), handled the car very well and we parked on the side of the road to change the tire. Now as we jumped out of the car I took one glance at the evening sun and decided to ask 2 of my other pals, whom we were in the car with, to pose as models so for a random silhouette shoot.

Believe it or not I shot these pics using my phone's camera (Samsung Galaxy Ace - S5830i) and then did a bit of post shooting enhancement. And before you start thinking that my phone has Canon 1D MARKIII attached, let me say that it's just an ordinary 5MP camera (Hence the grains on the pics). I used to really look down on phones' cameras but nowadays I'm a changed man. And by the way, speaking of phones' cameras, the image quality is nothing compared to the picture quality on the Samsung Galaxy SIII....Let me not start talking about the camera on an SIII coz if I start now on that subject, I assure you, I shall never finish.

So without going on and on let me present my latest collection of Silhouettes. I believe it's a build from my previous silhouette work. Thanks and Enjoy and as always leave me a comment....or if you really like what I do please buy me a Nikon D7000 and we'll be friends for life.

*For better viewing try move slightly away from ur monitor if ur using a PC
My pals and willing models, Wilson and his girlfriend Sly

Sly

By now I've made these two celebrities....say it with me. These are..... Wi....and Sl....

I also like this one coz of the golden reflection of the horizon. I've tried to cook up in my mind a story on how this is a silhouette but found it easier just to admit that it's not. It's not really a silhouette, just a classy Peugeot 504 staring into the sunrise...So I Just decide to throw it in there.
